Atlanta’s Transportation Referendum vote is making national news. I read this article just now in the NYT and this is the most ridiculous quote I’ve ever read:

“His pet project is the Atlanta BeltLine, so he’s included the BeltLine,” he said. “The BeltLine goes nowhere, and it’s not going to do anything to help the real gridlock of Atlanta. It’s pure pork.”

– John Sherman of the Fulton County Taxpayers Foundation, about Mayor Kasim Reed.

The BeltLine is going to be a HUGE part of Atlanta’s future, and the T-SPLOST vote will help. Can you imagine actually being able to walk from neighborhood to neighborhood instead of getting in the car to drive a block to the Kroger because its too unsafe to walk there? Even those in the suburbs will be able to take advantage of the light rail. You drive into town and leave your car in one spot and walk or take rail from place to place.

Also, its ridiculous to say that the BeltLine goes nowhere. It connects so many parts of Atlanta that are separated by poor transportation. Its like saying I-285 goes nowhere…

Im just having a hard time understanding why anyone would oppose this bill.
